On summer weekends, the dark green Spirit of Speyside diesel shuttles passengers 11 miles into the heart of Speyside, reinstated in the year 2000 as a heritage railway 32 years after regular services were withdrawn. The route links the mainline railway network at Keith (via a short walk) with Scotland’s whisky capital at Dufftown via the River Isla and the waters and braes of Lochpark – and is appriately nicknamed The Whisky Line. Provided you’re visiting on one of the operating days, the railway is a good option for visiting Dufftown and one or more of its distilleries without using a car.
