The UK’s most northerly botanic gardens occupy a strip of land where the River Ness and Caledonian Canal diverge as they approach the southern suburbs of Inverness. The well-tended outdoor spaces look their best on a sunny summer’s day, but there are also a couple of large glasshouses showing off tropical and arid vegetation year-round. Combining the garden with a visit to the nearby Ness Islands could make a very enjoyable half day outing.
