๐ Village on Lindisfarne, Northumberland
โ
โ
The only settlement on the Northumbrian island of Lindisfarne, Holy Island is a village unlike anywhere else in the UK. Access is reliant on a tidal vehicle causeway accessible for ~6 hours at a time, with the times of each tidal flow resulting in equivalent tidal flows of tourists to sample the village’s several major tourist sites: including castle, ruined priory, heritage centre, winery and coastal walks. The settlement itself is only a few streets wide, but has plenty of charm and packs in a decent number of pubs and services; most traffic is confined to a vast car park on the northern outskirts, leaving pedestrians to wander freely. A day should be ample time to explore most of what the island has to offer; see below for a list of the main attractions.
