📌 Clarkston, East Renfrewshire
★★★

Just where Glasgow‘s southern suburbs end and rolling countryside begin, this beautiful walled garden has tranquillity combined with an accessible location that the 18th century tobacco-merchant owner must have loved. Extensive and full of unexpected, hidden-away corners, late spring or summer is the best time to view the kaleidoscopic array of flowering plants. Earlier in spring or during autumn, various seasonal gardens provide interest. The house itself has no regular public access and is smaller than first appearances suggest – look out for the fake, 2-D wings complete with painted-on windows.
