Glenlivet Distillery boldly marks the start point for Speyside’s Malt Whisky Trail. Whisky production began here (legally, at least) in 1824 and is now firmly established as one of the world’s biggest brands – particularly popular in the USA. Despite its old roots, the production and exhibition areas are housed in large, modern buildings, with a major extension completed in 2010. This included a smart new exhibition area with the impressive sculpture pictured below as the centrepiece. Our tour experience unfortunately felt a bit rushed, though it’s been revamped since our visit.
