πŸ“Œ Vehicle ferry between Glenelg, Highland & Kylerhea, Isle of Skye
β˜…β˜…β˜…

The car ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea is not the quickest of the three ways from the Scottish mainland to Skye, accessed in both directions by long and sinuous single-track roads (admittedly very scenic, but not useful if you’re in a hurry). So why bother? Well, a sea crossing is much more romantic than using the modern bridge, it’s much cheaper than the ferry from Mallaig, and the approach road is gorgeously scenic. The route also has history: it is Scotland’s last manually operated turntable ferry – which seems fitting given the palindromic start point on the mainland side. Sit by the water’s edge, watching seals playing in the narrows as you wait your turn – 50 years ago, the scene would hardly have been any different.
