πŸ“Œ Rhu, Argyll & Bute
β˜…β˜…β˜…

Glenarn Garden cascades down the hillside on the edge of Rhu village, with occasional views over the trees to the Firth of Clyde. Once the summer playground of a Victorian lawyer from Glasgow, the house and grounds belonged to various families through the 20th century including the Gibson brothers, who became rhododendron enthusiasts by acquaintance with various botanists and Scottish landowners. After a period of neglect, the Thornley family moved to Glenarn in 1983 and have since been restoring what is perhaps a typical, beautiful “West Coast” garden – with rhododendrons, magnolias, woodland, rock garden, burns and a maze of rather steep paths to explore it all.
