๐Ÿ“Œ Fairlie, North Ayrshire
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The lower of the two waterfalls on the Glen Burn near Fairlie is an impressively big one, and marked on some Ordnance Survey maps as Linnford. Hidden away in dense woodland, the final approach involves a steep and slippery path, with some awkward route finding preceding this. There is a reservoir half a mile upstream which can affect flow volume (some online photographs show little more than a trickle), so pick your day carefully and check out the more detailed instructions below to see if this a suitable destination for you – decent footwear and agility is required.

๐Ÿ’ฌ From the layby it’s a 15-min walk (each way) to the waterfall (โฌค) Tough). Follow the road downhill a short distance, then take the gate on the left, in between the road and the dog exercise field. Cross the field (faint track) to the gate at the far left hand corner, then continue on the track beyond until a bridge over the burn. Do not cross the bridge, but continue downstream on the north (right) bank on a very faint path. The path becomes clearer as it enters natural woodland with the waterfall audible below; turn left onto a rough path which descends steeply (care needed) to the burn. Follow the burn back upstream to the base of the waterfall.
