๐Ÿ“Œ Lockerbie, Dumfries & Galloway
โ˜…โ˜…

On the 21st December 1988, a bomb exploded on a transatlantic flight from London to New York. 270 people were killed: all those on board, and 11 residents of the town of Lockerbie in southern Scotland, where sections of the aircraft came to rest. A poignant, well-tended garden inside Dryfesdale cemetery pays tribute to the victims, with the names of those killed carved onto granite. The disaster and the subsequent rebuilding of parts of the town is well documented in a small visitor centre at the entrance to the cemetery; another room serves as a good introduction to the wider region, which is little known beyond this tragedy.
