Housed in a splendid neoclassical building on Royal Exchange Square, the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow is Scotland’s best-known contemporary art gallery. Frequently changing exhibitions showcase a variety of themes and objects which are often as bizarre as they are fascinating. Outside the grand entrance, look out for the traffic cone which usually crowns the Duke of Wellington statue. This unusual head decoration has come to be a comical symbol of Glasgow’s quirky, fun-loving population (who replace it every time it is removed by city authorities).
