📌 Eyemouth, Scottish Borders
★★

The small museum at Eyemouth is often overlooked in favour of bigger Gunsgreen House and nearby coastal walks, but turns out to be a fascinating window into this village’s past. Organised around old industries such as fishing, netmaking, agriculture and blacksmith work, it’s full to the brim with donated local objects – lots to see and not too much to read. The Eyemouth Tapestry is also on display; this commemorates the area’s devastating 1881 fishing disaster, when a sudden storm claimed the lives of 189 East Coast fishermen, of whom 129 were from Eyemouth.
