Dean Village – a village within a city – used to form the heart of Edinburgh’s milling industry, with mills well-established along the fast-flowing Water of Leith by the 12th century. Today it’s a delightfully photogenic amphitheatre of colourful and desirable residences, best enjoyed from the footbridge over the river just off Damside. Rusty-hued Well Court is one of the most striking buildings, commissioned by the owner of The Scotsman newspaper in the 1880s to accommodate his workforce.
