📌 Howwood, Renfrewshire

The ruins of Castle Semple Collegiate Church lie next to the dismantled Dalry and North Johnstone railway line as it passes the lower end of Castle Semple Loch. Built in late Gothic style, the place of worship was founded in 1504 by John, Lord Sempill to serve his nearby castle (now gone). His tomb is in an eastern extension to the church. Reach it from a layby to the east, or as part of our Castle Semple walk route.
