πŸ“Œ Strathpeffer, Highland
β˜…β˜…β˜…

Castle Leod is only open to the public for a relatively small number of days each summer, but if you’re visiting the area around Strathpeffer at the right time, this seat of Clan Mackenzie is well worth visiting. The castle is well over 500 years old although some structural alterations have been carried out since then; today’s visitors will be relieved by the addition of a door at ground level, added by “Tutor of Kintail”, Sir Rory Mackenzie in the early 17th century. Today’s house tour is fairly extensive, with knowledgeable guides detailing highlights including the Great Hall, Edwardian Billiard Room and wood-clad Dining Room. This is still very much a family home, and understandably, photos of the interior weren’t permitted on our 2024 visit.
