Dunoon, Argyll & Bute
★★
This friendly regional museum is the best place to start an in-depth visit to the attractive town of Dunoon. The town’s location on the Firth of Clyde – relatively remote via land but readily accessible by sea – has provided the museum with a rich history to delve into, and Cowal’s manifold other attractions are also well covered. The crenelated building itself dates to 1822 and opened as a museum in 1998; it’s set above well-kept gardens and offers beautiful views across the Firth of Clyde.
