π Village on the Isle of Skye
β
Broadford is the second largest settlement on Skye, and the natural focal point for the entire southern half of the island. Set around Broadford Bay, this straggling village feels like the gateway to a national park – and perhaps one day it will be. The petrol station and supermarket in the header image above will be instantly recognisable to anyone exploring Skye by car, and sums up Broadford rather well: a useful roadside service hub with everything you could possibly need for holidaying here, but little of scenic interest or local attractions. Functional, but unmemorable. Perhaps that’s a little harsh – there are coastal views, two easily-missed piers (one fairly central, one a short walk away at Corry), ruined limekilns and a slightly twee “gift village” – but it won’t fill a rainy day. Cafe Sia is our favourite place to eat here, serving up excellent pizzas.
