๐Ÿ“Œ Bostadh, Great Bernera, Isle of Lewis
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The interesting island of Great Bernera, just off Lewis, has just one beach of any significant size. Located near the far north end of the island at Bostadh, it’s worth the journey on a quiet moorland road to reach views of stunning white sand, azure water if the sun is shining, and even a reconstructed iron-age house in the dunes behind the beach. Several islands are visible including rocky Bearasaigh and lower-lying Little Bernera, the latter separated from Great Bernera by the narrow Caolas Bearneraigh Beag. Also look out for the unusual Time and Tide Bell on an intertidal rock outcrop at the beach; installed in 2010 by sculptor Marcus Vergette, it chimes when the tide rises and is one of a dozen planned to be placed around the coastline of Britain.
