📌 Brue, Isle of Lewis

When travelling along Lewis’s north coast road between Barvas and Arnol, you might notice a small, stone building tucked away at the other end of a parking area on the outside of a moorland bend. This is a reconstructed shieling built by the local historical society in 2017; these simple dwellings were used by crofters when looking after their livestock on higher pastures during the summer months. The interior is equipped a simple bed surrounded by alcoves, and some basic cooking equipment.
