📌 Dalmuir, West Dunbartonshire
★★★
Auchentoshan Distillery isn’t cut from the same cloth as most Scotch whisky distilleries: it has several peculiarities. The location in the outer western suburbs of Glasgow is unusual (and let’s be honest: unpromising), seemingly at odds with the Gaelic to English translation of its name: “corner of the field”. Whisky produced here also has the distinction of being entirely triple-distilled – common amongst Irish whiskey, but reportedly unique in Scotland. This produces an especially delicate or sweet-tasting spirit, sometimes referred to as “the breakfast whisky”. We’ve enjoyed multiple tours here over the years, but photography wasn’t permitted inside on our visits, hence the lack of pictures on this page. The entrance sits on one of the main routes out of the city towards Loch Lomond and the West Highlands, so why not pop in if you’re passing?
