📌 Gorebridge, Midlothian
★★★★
🛠️ House appears to be closed for the 2024 season (checked April 2024)
The magnificent golden mansion of Arniston House has been the home of the Dundas Family for over four centuries, set amongst extensive grounds in Midlothian countryside close to Edinburgh. It doesn’t seem to have made it onto many people’s radars yet, judging by the low number of visitors. Our fascinating tour of the interior (admittedly a while ago now) was conducted by the friendly Althea Dundas-Bekker herself, and we understand that current family members still routinely act as guides. We were lucky to be the only ones there, despite it being a sunny July afternoon – even if you’re not so lucky, we highly recommend a visit. The photos on this page were taken more recently, while passing through on the pleasant half day walk from Gorebridge.
