๐Ÿ“Œ Arivruaich, Isle of Lewis
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

Trees are scarce in the Western Isles, so we were somewhat surprised when the main road between Lewis and Harris passed through a pocket of forest just north of the border between the two regions. Aline Community Woodland continues to expand several years after its official opening in 2013, and provides an excellent network of well-maintained trails from short strolls to more serious undertakings. The easy “East Board Walk” loop is less than a mile in length, visits a nearby lochan and affords good views of the North Harris hills; alternatively, just wander down to the water’s edge and return the same way. We shared the spot with an eagle, cuckoo and lots of hairy caterpillars on our May visit.
