Aberfoyle is right at the southern edge to the Trossachs, on the Highland Boundary Fault at the foot of the beautiful Duke’s Pass. With a population of about 1,000 it’s a tiny place which can be overwhelmed by high season visitors, and we don’t rate it as highly as the alternative gateway town of Callander to the east. Nevertheless there’s plenty to do in the immediate area surrounding the village; this is an excellent walker’s base no matter your ability or ambition. In town, most visitors head for the touristy Scottish Wool Centre but there’s also a spacious tourist office and several places to eat including a great chippy.

🚶 Aberfoyle is tiny, and therefore easily explored on foot. The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre trailhead is a short, steep walk by off-road footpaths for the walks and activities there.
