πŸ“Œ Aberdour, Fife
β˜…β˜…β˜…

Scotland is of course particularly well endowed with castles. The one at Aberdour in Fife, however, is a contender for the very oldest still standing; the central tower house dates all the way back to a the 1100s. The following centuries saw a series of major expansions and adaptations carried out, mostly by the Earls of Morton. Historic Environment Scotland allow access to the castle, beehive doocot, orchard, terraces and walled garden. Next to (and accessed through) the latter lies St Fillan’s Church, its history intertwined with the castle’s and still used as a parish church. Lots to see – allow at least an hour.
