The neo-classical, granite hulk of Aberdeen Art Gallery has dominated the Schoolhill district of Aberdeen since 1884 – and inside, it’s never looked better. The gallery reopened in November 2019 following a five year redevelopment project and the job’s a good ‘un – the gallery won the Scotland’s Best Building award in 2021, and is now the city’s biggest tourist draw. The 20+ different exhibition rooms showcase works spanning over 700 years, arranged creatively around themes such as Feasting, the Balmoral Phenomenon and Art of Empowerment.
