Corstorphine Dovecot was built in the 16th century to provide pigeon meat and droppings for the Corstorphine Castle estate, the rest of which has long since been replaced by well-heeled Edinburgh suburbs. The beehive-shape, stone building now forms an unusual accessory to an already attractive front garden. Views are of the outside only (a locked door prevents access to the interior, which apparently contains 1,060 nest boxes) and it’s not worth travelling miles to see, but worth a look if you’re passing through the area – perhaps after visiting nearby Edinburgh Zoo.
