📌 Isle of Lismore, Argyll & Bute

Old meets new at Lismore Heritage Centre, where a smart, modern community hub at the centre of Lismore (or should that be Lios Mhòr?) reconnects the island with its Gaelic past. There are two buildings: a traditional-style cottar’s (farm labourer’s) cottage as it might have appeared in the late 19th century, and a much larger cafe and terrace with adjoining exhibition space. On the subject of the cafe, the black pudding stacks one of us enjoyed in 2013 no longer seems to be on the menu, but the homemade blackcurrant sorbet on offer in 2021 was delicious on a hot day (even if a bit small).

💬 Due to the small size of Lismore & the expense of bringing a vehicle onto the island, we recommend walking or cycling. For day trippers, the shortest route from the ferry jetty at Achnacroish is 1.5 mi (each way) on paths & minor roads via Balnagown ( Easy). The ferry jetty at The Point is 3.5 mi (each way) on minor roads via Clachan ( Easy). Alternatively, visit as part of our featured walk route.
