πŸ“Œ Aberdour, Fife
β˜…β˜…

Aberdour Silversands is the beach immediately east of the attractive village of Aberdour, sandwiched between Hawkcraig Point to the south and The Heughs – a steep strip of hillside leading onwards to Burntisland – to the north. The alluring name is a bit of an exaggeration, with the tidal part of the beach tending to be rather muddy and the upper part having more of a golden hue, but it no doubt helps draw visitors – as do the decent cafe and adjacent toilets. The wider coastline really repays exploration. In particular, we recommend a wander out to Hawkcraig Point for excellent views; if you have a little more time, then a full circuit from the village centre is worthwhile. On quieter days in the off-season, wading birds congregate on the tidal mud undisturbed by human visitors. And we haven’t yet mentioned Silversands’ greatest strength: the “proper” sandy part of the beach is wholly above the high water mark, so you can enjoy it at any time of day without having to consult tide tables. That just leaves the question of the weather…
