πŸ“Œ Selkirk, Scottish Borders
β˜…β˜…

A mile upstream of Selkirk at Philiphaugh, migrating salmon face the obstacle of a broad weir, once used to raise the water level in order to supply water via a lade to a waterwheel powering a sawmill. A set of artificial rapids alongside the weir allow salmon to bypass the weir; learn more about their life cycle in the nearby visitor centre maintained by the local estate. Paths alongside the Ettrick Water make for a scenic stroll – extending east as far as the town centre if you’d prefer to arrive in Selkirk by public transport.
