๐Ÿ“Œ Standing stones on Great Bernera, Isle of Lewis
โ˜…โ˜…

Callanish VIII is collection of standing stones grouped together with the famous Calanais (or Callanish) Stones (Callanish I) – though the two sites are separated by about six miles of tidal channels and islands, or a considerably longer drive! Found on the island of Great Bernera, the stones form an unusual (for the period) semicircular shape overlooking the Sruth Iarsiadair: the strait separating Great Bernera from Lewis. From here there is also a great view of the Bernera Bridges, which are interesting in their own right. The original whitewashed one dates to 1953 and is sometimes referred to the Bridge over the Atlantic; following the discovery of structural defects, its ยฃ2 million replacement opened in 2021.
