Craigmore’s southern cliffs tower over Aberfoyle village, making a tempting target for a short but satisfying hillwalk. A waymarked trail from The Lodge Visitor Centre winds to the approximate halfway point, with a steeper, more direct alternative taking a more southerly route. Once above the treeline there are excellent views across the infant River Forth, while Ben Ledi and Loch Ard – the highlight – are revealed as height is gained. We were lucky to have the company of a herd of wild goats with kids on our 2024 visit.

Wildlife: Around 20 wild goats & kids on the ascent.
Weather: Temperature reaching 14°C or so with some sunshine & a gentle breeze.
