📌 Whitekirk, East Lothian
★★★

East Lothian is blessed with dozens of beautiful beaches, but Ravensheugh Sands is one of our favourites. The half-mile walk from the nearest, smallish car park prevents the area from becoming too crowded, and at low tide there’s over a mile of sand, allowing visitors to spread out. There are excellent rockpools at either end, and the headland of St Baldred’s Cradle makes for a pleasant walk immediately to the southeast. All this is backed by majestic Bass Rock, gleaming white with guano and seasonal gannets in sunny weather.

💬 From the car park it’s a 15-min walk (each way) to the beach ( Easy). Follow a track north (left when facing the road end), turning right after 400m immediately after crossing a burn. The track winds through forest before crossing a marshy area, with the beach straight ahead beyond the sand dunes.
