A straightforward stroll up a private road reaches this panorama over one of the lesser-visited corners of the Trossachs: across the flooded lower reaches of Glen Finglas. Glen Finglas Reservoir was carved out by the Glasgow Water Department in 1963-5 to satisfy the growing demand for water from Scotland’s biggest city. The vista from the dam wall takes in the distant and seldom climbed hills of Meall Cala and Benvane, and the truncated River Turk if you look in in the opposite, downstream direction. On the way to the dam a very short branch path goes off to the Ruskin viewpoint maintained by the Woodland Trust; we found this spot obscured by trees, but with a better outlook gained by scrambling down to the river bank below. Also don’t miss the unusual Bicycle Tree by the road to the car park!

💬 From the car park it’s a 10-min (each way) uphill walk to the viewpoint / top of the dam (⬤ Easy). Follow the tarmac track, keeping left at two forks. Before the second fork, a short path on the left accesses a second (Ruskin) viewpoint with rapids on the River Turk visible; a careful scramble down to the bank on the left gives better views.
