Taken together, the three neighbouring coastal settlements of Shandwick, Balintore and Hilton of Cadboll make up what are known as The Seaboard Villages. Each has its own appeal, with a pier, harbour and sandy beach respectively – and here we focus on the attractive beach, though the harbour is only a couple of minute’s walk away, separated by a rocky area with some rockpooling potential at low tide. Also worth looking out for: the beautiful Mermaid of the North statue just along the coast to the northeast of Balintore.
