This 145 metre-long concrete wall holds back the combined volumes of the Rivers Tummel and Garry on the edge of Pitlochry. Building work began in 1947 and lasted four years, creating Loch Faskally behind in the process. Two turbines provide hydroelectric power for 15,000 homes; you can see the turbines through windows on the walkway across the dam wall. Thousands of salmon and trout bypass the dam annually via a specially-constructed fish ladder alongside.
