Between Stirling and Falkirk, the M9, M80 and M876 form a dense network of motorways transporting thousands of people each today through the Central Belt: Scotland’s busiest region. Within the blue triangle is a sliver of countryside which couldn’t be more different: a quiet region of rolling farmland and forest. And at the centre and high point of the largest area of woodland is a real surprise: a 2,000 year-old broch, nearly overtaken by bracken in high summer but with an exciting, hidden-away feel. Torwood Castle is a short walk away.
