Temple Wood is the picturesque setting for the best-preserved stone circle in Kilmartin Glen – but there’s more to it than that. A timber ring was first constructed here at least 5,000 years ago, before a stone circle was built next to this. Burial cairns were later added to this increasingly complex site, along with smaller burial cists. One of the stones in the circle features a spiral motif similar to Irish passage-grave art, suggesting an ancient link between these two regions.

πŸ’¬ From the car park it’s a 10-min walk (each way) to the stone circle. Cross the minor road & footbridge beyond to reach Nether Largie Standing Stones. Continue northwest (directly away from the road behind) on a grassy path for 300m to the stone circle.
